We plan to simulcast on Facebook Live, too and video will follow on the JCBA Vimeo Channel.

This gallery talk on JCBA Zoom features recent research and thoughts about creativity and the irrefutable connection between inspiration and the rituals of hand papermaking. Sharing images and insights from studio investigations, Amy's goal is to illuminate those moments of attention when a work begins to be informed by the material itself, sometimes even moving away from the artist's original intent and taking on a transformative life of its own.

After working as a visual artist and science writer for many years, a fascination with hand papermaking processes led artist AMY RICHARD to complete an MFA in the Book Arts at the University of Iowa, Center for the Book. Studying with renowned paper specialist Timothy Barrett, her focus was on melding traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary pulp painting and sculptural approaches to paper. Her work can be found in numerous private and public collections including the Smithsonian, Newberry Library, University of Florida, Miami, and Iowa, among others. Richard lives in Gainesville, Florida, where she teaches art and papermaking out of her studio, online, and broader community. https://www.amyrichardstudio.com/

This JCBA Zoom gallery talk is presented in conjunction with Amy Richard's upcoming in-house workshop at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts: JAPANESE PAPERMAKING is on Saturday & Sunday, April 20 & 21. Learn more about the workshop, including details on how to register, at the WORKSHOPS link here at jaffecollection.org.
