CONSTITUTION DAY & LETTERPRESS APPRECIATION DAY
Twelfth Annual Open House

Sunday September 17 & Monday September 18
Noon to 4 PM each day

In-House at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts

Constitution Day falls each year on September 17 and Letterpress Appreciation Day follows on the 18th, and we're celebrating both this year as we honor the First Amendment and the Freedom of the Press.

COME PRINT!

During our open house come make a free souvenir print that we've designed especially for the celebration. You'll either be printing on JCBA's 1890 Wesel Iron Handpress or on one of our 1940s Vandercook Proof Presses. Either way: YOU will be the printer. You'll print a broadside (a poster, basically) set by hand from JCBA's collection of historic wood and metal types and vintage imagery while we give you a brief introductory immersion into the fascinating and venerable craft of printing. The print is yours to keep and printing it will teach you the difference between clicking PRINT and actually PRINTING.

FREE PAPER MOON PHOTO BOOTH, TOO!

The folks at Paper Moonage will be in attendance both Sunday and Monday for free vintage paper moon portraits! (They were supposed to be at our Wayzgoose in August, but had to cancel at the last minute... so we invited them back for Constitution Day and Letterpress Appreciation Day.)

MINI MAKERS MARKETPLACE

There will be some fun things available for purchase (many in the print category, of course).

This event takes place at the Jaffe Center for Book Arts on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library.

DIRECTIONS

From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

The I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage. CAMPUS SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MPH and university police actively enforce this.

PARKING

Visitors are directed to use the metered parking spaces in the parking lot just outside the library. There are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2.50 per hour.

BUILDING ENTRANCE / SECURITY

Everyone entering and leaving FAU’s Wimberly Library must be swiped in and out, using their FAU Owl Card. For visitors without Owl Cards, once you’re inside the lobby of the building, let the folks at the front desk know you are here for the Jaffe Center and they will grant you access. (This may involve waving at the front desk crew to get their attention.)

WHILE YOU'RE HERE

Be sure to take in our new exhibition, MARGINALIA: Conversations from the Margins of the Jaffe Collection.
