IN-HOUSE HOLIDAY CARD SOCIAL

Tuesday December 12, 2023
Noon to 4 PM in JCBA's Book Arts Gallery

Bring your cards, bring your stamps, and let's get those holiday cards in the mail! We'll be gathering in the Jaffe Book Arts Gallery for a special in-house Real Mail Fridays session devoted just to midwinter holiday cards on Tuesday December 12. Bring your Christmas cards, bring your Chanukah cards (Chanukah continues to December 15!), bring your Kwanzaa cards and Yule cards and New Year cards, and don't forget your postage stamps, too. We'll supply the gathering spot and simple art supplies and a Very Jaffe Soundtrack of delightfully unusual music for the season. You may also bring coffee and tea and water (but no other food and no sodas, please)*. Donations in support of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts are welcome but not expected.

Come when you can and leave when you must, and expect a delightful afternoon… the kind where you’re dreaming of a white Christmas with every Christmas card you write. And don’t forget: just like being in a snowy forest, it can get pretty cold in the Jaffe Book Arts Gallery over the course of a few hours; wise holiday card writers will be dressed in layers for this social.

The Jaffe Center for Book Arts is located on the third floor east of Florida Atlantic University's Wimberly Library. FAU staff and students will need their Owl Card to enter the library. Visitors will need to wave at the front desk librarians and ask them to let you in.

DIRECTIONS

From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. If you enter the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike), you will enter on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

The I-95 interchange for Florida Atlantic University (Exit 48A) takes you directly from the interstate to FAU. Once you pass the traffic light at Spanish River Boulevard, you are on the FAU campus on FAU Boulevard. Continue to the traffic signal at the intersection of FAU Boulevard and University Drive (FAU Stadium will be on your right). Turn right onto University Drive. Turn left at the traffic signal at Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage.

Mind your speed! FAU Police are strictly enforcing the campus-wide 25 MPH speed limit.

PARKING

Visitor Parking is available at the metered spaces in the library parking lot; there are “metered parking” signs posted at the head of these parking spaces. The meter system accepts payment with cash or credit card at the rate of $2.50 per hour.

* Please note that as we navigate into a new version of in-house Real Mail Fridays Socials, JCBA will no longer be providing postage stamps nor serving food and beverages. You are welcome to bring your own postage stamps, and you are welcome to bring your own simple beverage to enjoy. Food will no longer be permitted inside the Book Arts Gallery. Please understand that JCBA is conforming to long standing library and university policies. The library policy prohibits food in collections areas, and the university policy prohibits us from serving food and beverages that are not supplied by the university's food service provider. Using that provider, however, would make the cost of Real Mail Fridays prohibitively expensive. Since we are no longer providing these things, donations for attending in-house Real Mail Fridays are no longer expected. They are, however, always appreciated. Thank you for your understanding and your support!
