Libraries Reference Department Policy Statement on Non-Affiliated User Services |
Non-affiliated users of the Florida Atlantic University Library include
community residents, public and private school students, corporate and
business personnel, and other professional individuals. Students and
faculty from other colleges not included in the affiliate list are also
included in this group.
Disabled individuals coming to the Florida Atlantic University Library,
whether they are affiliated or non-affiliated, will be given assistance, as
stated in the Library's "Policy Statement on Students with Disabilities,"
provided there is staff available.
Services of the Reference Department will be provided to all users as
stated in the "Reference Department Policy Statement" with the
understanding that it may be necessary to give priority to affiliated users
during busy periods. When priorities must be set, individuals will be asked their
affiliation.
The Library is committed to the principles of the federal and state
depository programs and will assist users in these areas without regard to
affiliation. Use within the building of the Florida Atlantic University
Library collections, including Reference and Government Documents, is
unrestricted. (This unrestricted use policy does not apply to the special
collections that are in the Library.)
Telephone questions are limited to those that can be answered with
ready reference materials. The number of titles (i.e. books, journals)
that can be checked in the online catalog (LUIS) is limited to three.
The availability of books in the stacks will not be verified.
If further assistance is needed, non-affiliated users will be referred
to an appropriate public, school or special library.
Orientations
Professors, teachers and media specialists are encouraged to conduct
their own library orientations. If needed, the Education Reference librarian
can meet with the person conducting the tour to answer any
questions about the resources and services that are currently
available in the Library. However, if it is preferred, the Education
Reference librarian can conduct the orientation. The following
rules apply for non-affiliated group orientations:
Questions regarding public service policies should be directed to
Dawn Smith, Assistant Director of
Public Services.
