Information Literacy and Instructional Services Policies for Non-Affiliated Users

Non-Affiliated users of the Florida Atlantic University Library include community residents, public and private school students, corporate and business personnel and other professional individuals. Students and faculty from other colleges not included in the affiliate list are also included in this group.

Services Provided to Non-Affiliated Users

  • Orientations
  • Workshops
  • Reference Consultations
Orientations

Professors, teachers and media specialists are encouraged to schedule library orientations with Instructional Services. Librarians will plan an orientation based on each group's specific needs. The following rules apply to non-affiliated group orientations:

Workshops

Priority will be given to FAU students, faculty and staff, but non-affiliated users are welcome to attend when space is available.

Reference Consultations

Reference Consultations for non-affiliated users are only offered when extended reference services cannot be accommodated at the Reference Desk. Consultations for non-affiliated users may be discontinued if they interfere with the librarian's regular library duties or disrupt the library's flow of operations. Requesters must complete a Reference Consultation Request Form available online or at the reference desk. Requesters will be contacted by phone or email to arrange a consultation.

Questions regarding public service policies should be directed to Dawn Smith, Assistant Director of Public Services.
