Disturbance Policy

Florida Atlantic University students are the library’s primary clientele. The needs of Florida Atlantic University students take priority over other patrons who are granted library privileges for the purpose of engaging in research or quiet study. An environment conducive to quiet study and research can occur only with the cooperation and support of all users. Social activities should take place in other campus facilities or off campus, not in the library. Accordingly, persons determined by the library staff to be disruptive to a quiet study atmosphere may expect to be asked, and are required, to remove themselves from the library immediately.

Disruptive behavior includes making excessive noise that disrupts the use of the library by others, offensive body odor or use of perfume of cologne which elicits general complaints or causes discomfort to other library users, verbal or physical abuse, intimidation, or harassment on account of race, religion, ethnic or national background, gender or sexual orientation.

All Cell phones should be set to ring in “silent” mode and all conversation should be carried on in areas that will not disturb others.

Among the actions which will result in disciplinary, or legal action, are disorderly conduct, abusive language, or threats toward library staff or other users of the libraries.

Questions regarding public service policies should be directed to Dawn Smith, Assistant Dean, Public Services.
