Call Numbers for Philosophy

Browsing the shelves is a less structured method of finding out what the library has on a subject of interest.  To add some structure to your browsing, keep in mind that the Library of Congress breaks Philosophy into distinctive subclasses: B Philosophy (general)    BC Logic    BD Speculative Philosophy    BH Aesthetics    BJ Ethics

Visit the Library of Congress web site to see how our collection is organized. Both circulating and non-circulating (Reference) materials follow the same classification system.

Searching Tips
FAU's book catalog has two search modes: Basic and Advanced. The Basic Screen gives the option of searching for books by keyword, author, title and subject. The Advanced Screen gives these options plus several others. Open the box labeled "keyword" to view your search options. To search only for books located in Jupiter, open the Location drop-down and select Jupiter.

If the library does not have what you need, use ILLiad to request materials from other libraries. Create an ILLiad account to make and manage interlibrary loans.  Once you have an established Username and Password, enter citation information to request books, articles and other materials. The ILL office in Boca Raton will send an e-mail when the item has arrived at that location.  Library staff at Jupiter will send an e-mail to you shortly thereafter, when the item arrives at Jupiter.
