Finding Articles
|
|
- 1. How do I find articles on my topic?
- Use Resources in
your Subject Area to find databases containing full text articles
appropriate to your subject area. Many of the library's databases are
subject-specific, but some are general or comprehensive in scope. If your
subject area is not listed on this page, visit
Electronic Journals by
Subject for an alternate selection of disciplines.
-
- 2. The database I'm searching is only partly full text.
- How do I retrieve full text when all I have
is the citation?
-
Each citation should have a "Special Effects" (SFX) icon next to
it. Click on this button and select from the options presented.
Often, the full text is available through another database.
-

- 3. There doesn't seem to be any full text of the article I need.
- What should I do now?
- Check the catalog to
see whether FAU Libraries own issues of the journal you need. It is
possible that the library has a paper copy of what you need. The John D.
MacArthur Campus library also maintains a list of its periodical holdings on our
Comprehensive Journals
Page. This includes our journals in microformats and paper.
- 4. I've done a thorough search of the databases, the catalog, and
the shelves. I don't think FAU has what I need.
How can I get my article?
- Requests for articles from the Boca Raton and other libraries are handled through an online system called ILLiad. You must have a valid Owl Card number to sign up for ILLiad. If you have not already done so, you must register for an ILLiad account. Be sure to remember your username and password, and to select "Jupiter" as your delivery location. Once you have an ILLiad account, you can request
articles by choosing "Request a Photocopy" and providing information from the
citation. You will be notified by email when your requested article arrives at the Jupiter library.
Some articles are available directly to your computer via desktop delivery.
If you prefer that option, be sure to indicate that when you register.
Articles from the Boca Raton library generally take approximately one week to
arrive; articles from other libraries may take up to three weeks or more.
