CANTOR
MAX RUBEN-TILLES
Cantor
Max Ruben-Tilles was born in Cracow, Poland. His father, brothers
and uncles were cantors. He survived a number of concentration
camps and was rescued by American soldiers on March 5, 1945
and arrived in the US in 1948. He has served as cantor at
Beth Emeth in Philadelphia, the Rochester Beth Joseph Center,
and the Fairlawn Jewish Center in New Jersey, where he had
been the cantor for 31 years. At a recent Holocaust Ceremony
in Palm Beach County, Florida, he sang the El Maley Rachamim
memorial prayer, moving the entire audience to tears, including
First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.
