CANTOR MAX RUBEN-TILLES
Cantor Max Ruben-Tilles was born in Cracow, Poland. His father, brothers and uncles were cantors. He survived a number of concentration camps and was rescued by American soldiers on March 5, 1945 and arrived in the US in 1948. He has served as cantor at Beth Emeth in Philadelphia, the Rochester Beth Joseph Center, and the Fairlawn Jewish Center in New Jersey, where he had been the cantor for 31 years. At a recent Holocaust Ceremony in Palm Beach County, Florida, he sang the El Maley Rachamim memorial prayer, moving the entire audience to tears, including First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.
