The S. E. Wimberly Library defines exhibits as thematic displays of materials including
but not limited to books, posters, documents, art
work, objects and other artifacts, that are
accompanied by written commentary or labels. The
Library exhibit area is in the inner lobby of the
main floor. Occasional exhibits may be mounted in
other areas of the library with the approval of the
Library Exhibits Committee. The Library seeks a
diversity of exhibits that reflect the curriculum
and collections of the University.
- While the Exhibits Committee will make
every effort to honor scheduling commitments, the
Library reserves the right to postpone, reschedule
or curtail an exhibit.
- The concept of freedom of speech,
as described in the American Library Association
Bill of Rights and the Florida Atlantic
University Student Handbook on Disruptive Conduct
(6C5-7.007 p. 163) is an important right which is supported
by the Library.
- Contemporary audiences may find material
in an exhibit to be offensive to some groups or
individuals. The exhibit of any given materials
does not constitute endorsement by Florida
Atlantic University or Florida Atlantic
University Library. An objective of the
Exhibits Committee is to assist social memory and
provide a comprehensive window on the changing
human experience.
- Priority is given to exhibits
prepared by the S. E. Wimberly Library, University organizations
and members of the
University community. The Library may elect to use
exhibit materials prepared by other organizations
not affiliated with the University.
- In support of the mission of
S.E. Wimberly Library, the University Library
welcomes non-commercial exhibits of artistic and
educational material that include a library component
which inform the University community about the
resources, collections, and services of the University
Library. Exhibits should have a clearly defined
educational purpose and content.
- The Library Exhibits Committee is
responsible for scheduling exhibits and
coordinating their subsequent preparation and
presentation. The Committee also consults with the
other library units and selects or assists in the selection
of appropriate library materials for inclusion
in the exhibits.
- Exhibitors are responsible for
providing high-quality, exhibit-ready content.
Content should be accurate, based on authoritative
sources, and documented with bibliographic citations.
Written materials should provide context and background
appropriate for a general audience and create
a cohesive narrative for the exhibit.
- The Library cannot provide security for
exhibits. The Library accepts no
responsibility for damage to the exhibits while in the Library or while being shipped
to or from the Library. Exhibit materials must be removed
by the end date of the show. The Library does
not assume liability for exhibit materials after
this time. The exhibitor must
complete an Exhibit Release Form before the
display is installed.
- The Exhibit Committee retains right of
refusal and is not obligated to accept every
exhibit offered for display. Furthermore, an
exhibit may be cancelled at any stage if the
exhibitors have not met the agreed upon conditions
and deadlines. The Committee reserves the
right to cancel an exhibit if it not
exhibit-ready.
