360 Search Is...
360 Search is a powerful search
engine that allows users to search the FAU Libraries online catalog and research
databases simultaneously. You may search a number of databases grouped
together by subject, or select databases by title.
360 Search Basics...
- Some FAU databases are not
included in 360 Search at this time as the current technology behind 360 Search will not work with all databases. To access a complete
list of the FAU databases, see the
FAU Libraries
Databases by Title page or the
FAU Libraries
Databases by Subject page.
- There are common search
functions that work in many databases (e.g. subject search, keyword search,
boolean operators). Try these in 360 Search but realize that some
may not apply to all of the databases included.
- As 360 Search uses common
search functions so that you can search in many databases, you cannot do an
in-depth search like you can in a specific database. If you are doing
in-depth research, you will get better results if you link to the database
and search it using its own interface.
- Search results may be extremely
large and less precise if you use common terms in keyword search or if you
select an unlimited number of databases to search. Limiting your
search to 4 or 5 databases at a time - or one subject area - is a better and
quicker option than searching all databases at once.
360 Search Tips...
- Use quotes to force a phrase
(e.g. "project management"). 360 Search automatically adds an
"and" between words if you do not use quotes.
- When doing an author search,
start with the author's last name first. However, try it both ways.
- Use an asterisk for truncation
(e.g. educat* finds educate, educating, education, educator, etc.).
- Revise, sort, and filter your
results:
- Click "Revise Search" to
change your search or add additional search terms
- Click "Sort Results By:" "Date",
"Title", "Author" or "Source"
- Click in the "Full Text" box
under "Filter by" to limit to full text sources only
