Libraries Technical Services Policies and Procedures Treatment of CD-ROMs as Accompanying Material to Monographs |
CD-ROMS received as supplemental material to monographs will be routed to the Circulation Desk. The disk will remain in the Circulation Area and will be available for checkout.
Compact discs accompanying non-circulating monographic material (such as REF) will be treated as circulating copies of the main publication in Aleph SB with separate copy statements and corresponding user messages: ACCOMPANYING CD-ROM LOCATED AT CIRCULATION DESK; or, will have separate bibliographic records in Aleph SB that will allow them to circulate.
Printed material will be routed to the stacks with a label affixed to the CD-ROM pocket, or to the end papers as appropriate. The label will read ACCOMPANYING CD-ROM LOCATED AT CIRCULATION DESK.
The disk will be removed from the book and placed in a protective plastic jewel box by Technical Services staff, who will also label the plastic box with the call no. of the printed material and the designation Suppl. (NOTE: Call no. labels for CD-ROMS accompanying monographic Reference material will not include REF prefix.)
The CD-ROM and printed material will be shelf listed in Aleph SB by Technical Services staff in charge of quality control as follows:
CD-ROMS will be counted in a separate statistical category of Daily Processing statistics.
The CD-ROMS will be available for Inter-Library Loan, and will be loaned with accompanying printed material. All campus Libraries will follow the same guidelines in dealing with CD-ROMS.
CD-ROMS accompanying serial/periodical material should be referred to the Serials Cataloger.
