The Special Collections and Archives Department maintains its collections and books in a restricted, closed stack environment. Anyone who wishes to use material from these collections may do so by completing both a patron registration
from and a paging slip for each visit. The reverse side of the registration form covers regulations and copyright. Failure to comply with regulations may result in suspension of the privilege of using Special Collections' holdings. The paging request asks for title and call number of books and collections you need.
In order to best utilize the collections, researchers are asked to write, call, or e-mail before they visit.
You will not be allowed to have with you bags, briefcases, purses, portfolios, notebooks, legal pads, and other such items while researching. The use of a laptop computer is permitted. (For an extended visit, you may wish to bring a sweater or jacket, as the room temperature is usually quite cool.) Paper and pencils are provided for your note taking, as well as acid-free flags to mark any pages you wish copied. The Special Collections staff will examine the book, papers, etc., and determine whether it can be scanned or photocopied, based on condition. Copying of material is limited, and must comply with all U.S. copyright regulations.
