The Richard Beattie Davis
Music Collection consists very largely of first and early
editions of a wide variety of music, dating from the early
1790s to the first two decades of the twentieth century.
There are full scores of first German editions of the nine
symphonies of
Beethoven
and several other of his orchestral works, a
miscellaneous
collection of nineteenth century editions of choral,
orchestral and piano music, and over 60 piano
works of J. N.
Hummel. There
are also over two hundred
Russian scores, almost all first editions dating from
the mid-nineteenth century to the years immediately
preceding the Russian Revolution. There are over 60
chamber works by a variety
of composers, complete with parts, available for use.
There is a separate
Bessel
Archives of over twenty scores included in the Richard
Beattie Davis Collection by special permission of the
granddaughters of the founders of the famous Russian music
publishing house V. Bessel & Co. The
Thomas B. Pitfield Collection
includes musical and artistic works of the English composer,
artist and designer. In addition, there is an unprocessed
collection of compositions by Nathan Lupu of Boynton Beach,
Florida, who studied with noted music theorist Thorvald
Otterstrom of Chicago and
Raul Spivak from Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton,
Florida.
