Vision of Hell/Joe Nicastri & Sherri Tan

Vision of Hell is a sculptural altered book by Miami artists Joe Nicastri and Sherri Tan. This piece is probably the first one many visitors to the Collection notice when they arrive, for it sits in a case directly in line with the entrance. Nicastri and Tan have taken a pre-existing book-an old tome titled Vision of Hell-and altered it by sealing the pages closed, then cutting through the center of the book. A second, smaller old book emerges from the cut center, while two framed polymer fresco paintings, each with figures of two nude women dancing, float in the space in front of and behind the large tome.
