A Field of Owls: Celebrating the Burrowing Owl and Florida Atlantic University Libraries' Millionth Book

Autumn 2005 / The Jaffe Atrium Book Arts Gallery

The Jaffe Atrium Book Arts Gallery presents "A Field of Owls: Celebrating the Burrowing Owl and Florida Atlantic University Libraries' Millionth Book." This book arts exhibit features the millionth book placed at FAU Libraries: "A Field of Owls: The Burrowing Owl Observed." This book was printed letterpress on handmade paper by Jaffe staffers John Cutrone and Seth Thompson at Minerva: The Press at Wimberly in a limited edition of 100 copies. Copy number one--the Libraries' millionth book--was specially handbound and boxed for the occasion by Oregon bookbinder Paula Marie Gourley. The book is exhibited alongside other owl-themed books from the Jaffe Collection and FAU Libraries' Special Collections.

The Jaffe Atrium Book Arts Gallery is located in the lobby outside the Jaffe Collection, third floor east of the Wimberly Library at FAU's Boca Raton campus. Though an appointment is necessary to view books inside the Jaffe Collection, the gallery is open and available during regular library hours. The exhibit runs through December, 2005. For more information, contact the Jaffe Collection at extension 7-0226, or contact Book Arts Coordinator John Cutrone at jcutrone@fau.edu.
