Construct

Summer 2006 / The Jaffe Atrium Book Arts Gallery

Inspired by the sounds of jack hammers, cement pumps, and nail guns operating on compressed air, and by the sight and gritty feel of white dust coating our display cases, the Jaffe Collection has put together an exhibit of artists' books that deal with the topic of construction.

CONSTRUCT is now on view in what remains of the Jaffe Atrium Book Arts Gallery, 3rd Floor East of the Wimberly Library. The exhibit takes a broad view of the idea of construction, and includes books with architectural elements, books that explore concepts of construction, books that open into rooms and spaces... even a book by a Russian Constructivist artist. The exhibit runs now until the opening of the new expanded Jaffe Collection, with its brand new book arts gallery, slated for August, 2006. More books in the exhibit are also in the cases at the Wimberly's Administrative Offices, 2nd Floor West.

The gallery, in the lobby outside the Jaffe Collection, is open anytime during regular library hours. (The Jaffe Collection itself is open by appointment.) We hope you'll come on by. Hard hats are optional, but not required.
