Yisker-Bikher (Memorial Books)

Yisker-bikher, or Memorial Books, were written after the Holocaust by survivors. The purpose of these books was to document the shetls (Jewish villages of Central and Eastern Europe) that were destroyed and to record the names of those Jews killed by Nazis or Nazi sympathizers. Yiskor books are a source of valuable information about life in Jewish towns before the Holocaust.
