Child Development Research
Dr.
Judith Kestenberg (1910-1999) was born in Cracow, Poland and received
her medical degree in Vienna. In 1937, with Europe in political turmoil, she left for New York.
During the next six years, she completed her psychiatric
residency at Bellevue Hospital and analytic training at the New
York Psychoanalytic Institute.
Her primary research was done with children especially those who
suffered trauma. She founded
Child Development Research
in 1961 which was dedicated to
working with children and parents to prevent mental
disorders and developmental problems. The
International Study of the Organized Persecution of Children
was established in 1981 to study the long term effects on
people who were persecuted as children.
Dr. Kestenberg was honored by the American Jewish Congress and
by the New York Society of Clinical Psychologists.
