Impossibly large images bring excitement to the pop-up book. Strategies for creating these expansive structures are useful in miniature books, as they allow the artist to increase the drama and expand the content. Using cardstock and a small set of simple hand tools, students will build and bind a number of structures that move above, beyond, and behind the page. Beginners are welcome; experienced participants will explore pop-ups in a whole new way.
Shawn Sheehy’s interest in paper engineering grew from his background in sculpture, graphic design and book arts. Sheehy editions pop-up artists' books and creates mass-market pop-up books ("Welcome to the Neighborwood" is his most recent). His work is collected by the Jaffe Collection and many other book arts collections. He teaches paper engineering workshops all over the U.S. and this is his second time teaching at JCBA. <www.shawnsheehy.com>

CINDY BARTOSEK SCHOLARSHIP
One seat in this workshop is available to an FAU student for just the cost of materials ($10) thanks to JCBA Book Arts Enthusiast Cindy Bartosek, who has funded student participation in our workshops with a generous gift to the Jaffe Center for Book Arts. To be considered for this seat, you must be a current FAU student and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org explaining what it would mean to you to have the opportunity to take this workshop. Applications for this opportunity will be accepted through March 14, 2017.
