Back by popular request, here is another session of Eco Printing on Leather with Merike Van Zanten, our current Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence.

Instructor Merike Van Zanten
Sunday March 24, 2019
10 AM to 4 PM
JCBA's Hand Papermaking Lab
at Historic Building T6

A workshop suitable for bookbinders and craft people alike. Eco printing on leather requires an approach different from eco printing on paper or fabric. The results are stunning. The printed leather can be used for book covers, small bags, and more. No experience necessary. Class limit: 8.

Tuition Schedule

General Public: $105
FAU Faculty & Staff, Students from other Institutions: $100
FAU Students: $95
PLUS an additional materials surcharge of $15 to $20 (which will be paid to the instructor).

Advance registration is required for all JCBA workshops. To register, email JCBA Director John Cutrone, listing explicitly which workshop(s) you would like to attend. Sending your email will begin the registration process.

One seat in the full 2-day version of this workshop is available to an FAU student for just the cost of materials ($35) thanks to funds raised in memory of Dorothy Hamilton, who loved JCBA’s monthly Real Mail Fridays letter writing socials. To be considered for this seat, you must be a current FAU student and send an email to explaining what it would mean to you to have the opportunity to take this workshop. Applications for this opportunity will be accepted through March 21, 2019 (just a few days before the workshop).

Merike Van Zanten is JCBA’s current Salzberg Artist in Residence. She comes to us from the Netherlands and specializes in ecoprinting, a technique of extracting color and images from plants and metals through steam. Merike’s art is wide-ranging but focuses on hand papermaking and artists’ books, as well––many incorporating found materials.
