Artist's Statement
I am firmly in the camp of designers who
believe it’s our mission to visually underscore the text.
While satisfaction can be found in the finished product, I
find greater joy in the prepping that we letterpress
printers call makeready and in the melding with my
hand-cranked machine during the press run. But the real pay
off? It’s that glimpse of raking light seen in the
impression on each sheet just before it’s lifted off the
press.
