JCBA's Fourth Annual
The Power of the Press

(an online video event)

featuring printer BEN BLOUNT
your host JOHN CUTRONE, Director of FAU Libraries' Jaffe Center for Book Arts

JCBA's 2021 Wayzgoose is available now for you to watch anytime. Originally broadcast on Bartlemas Night, August 24, 2021. St. Bartholomew is a patron saint of bookbinders, and his feast day, Bartlemas, is a red-letter day for papermakers and printers, too. Especially in England, where the Bartlemas Wayzgoose celebration has become a traditional day of festivity in printshops, celebrating the printer's craft and the transition from summer to autumn.

We've set the day aside these four years now, celebrating on its traditional date, bringing you each year an outstanding letterpress printer and some fine, fine music. Our featured printer for 2021 was Ben Blount of Evanston, Illinois. You may remember Ben as our featured Wayzgoose printer back in 2018; he was great then, but since then he's really found his place in letterpress and a powerful voice speaking out against injustice and racism.

Following our chat with Ben, enjoy a special Wayzgoose concert with Jay Ungar & Molly Mason, best known for their song "Ashokan Farewell," which film director Ken Burns chose to feature in his PBS documentary, "The Civil War." There are songs to sing along to, selections from Jay & Molly's Harvest Home Suite, and a special Wayzgoose Medley, too (not to mention a tender rendition of their most famous tune). Jay Ungar & Molly Mason are, quite simply, the heart and soul of American Roots Music, and we are so honored they chose to be part of our Library Wayzgoose Festival.

The Wayzgoose is a 90-minute event, so fix yourself a proper Wayzgoose snack and libation, then press play and enjoy!
