REAL MAIL FRIDAYS
Friday March 1
2 to 6 PM in JCBA's Book Arts Gallery
at FAU’s Wimberly Library 3rd Floor East
Free masks for the first 24 guests!
March the 5th will bring Mardi Gras; the final day of the long Carnival season, which isn’t celebrated much in the States but has a long history in convivial American towns like New Orleans, Key West, and Mobile, Alabama. In other lands, though, Carnival is a very big deal, and perhaps nowhere more than at the Carnevale of Venice, with its elaborate masks and high Baroque fashion. Bring to this Real Mail Fridays letter writing social the spirit of whatever Carnival you choose, but we’ll be setting the scene with as much Venetian festivity as we can muster, with a distinctly Old Italian flair.
You’ll find our usual good company and good music… not to mention papers and pens and art supplies and even the postage stamps for your letters, and of course hot coffee and tea and treats to foster that letter writing creativity. You bring good spirit and your address book and a $10 donation. And wear a mask, if you’d like to hide your identity. That, too, is perfectly fashionable. A plume pen would be a nice touch, too. Come when you can and leave when you must… we’ll be here writing letters from 2 to 6 PM, when the library closes.
