Arthur Jaffe's turning 92!
Big Birthday Open House
Sunday afternoon May 5, 2013 from 2 to 5 PM here at JCBA
Ice Cream Social + Printshop Hijinks + Silent Movies
It's an old fashioned good time celebration here at JCBA in honor of our founder's 92nd birthday, with ice cream, popcorn, and silent movies all afternoon... and of course a print project in the JCBA Letterpress Studio.
PARKING WILL BE A BREEZE!
The university's spring semester ends on May 3, so there should be very little traffic and plenty of parking for you for Arthur's birthday celebration. We've made special arrangements for free parking for you in the non-metered parking spaces in the library parking lot, the neighboring parking garage, and parallel parking on Volusia Street for this afternoon only. You must still pay for parking if you park in a metered space, though. Parking meters are enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week at FAU. Metered spaces are the ones that have numbers posted on small round signs at the head of the space. So don't use those spaces!
In case you need directions...
JCBA is located inside FAU's Wimberly Library. From I-95 or the Florida Turnpike, exit Glades Road, east. The FAU campus is located just east of I-95. Turn left onto the campus at FAU's main entrance (the one furthest west on Glades Road... and the first one you get to approaching from I-95 or the turnpike). You will be on West University Drive. Continue straight on West University Drive to the traffic light at its intersection with Volusia Street. Turn right onto Volusia Street. You will see a parking garage on Volusia Street, and the Wimberly Library is the next building east of the parking garage. JCBA is at the far east end of the third floor of the library.
WHAT TO GET A 92-YEAR OLD BOOK ARTS ENTHUSIAST?
Arthur's got everything he needs. What he'd love more than anything is your support for the Jaffe Center for Book Arts. We have two options for you:
1. Jaffe Support Fund: This is the fund we use to purchase new books for
the Jaffe Collection.
2. JCBA Education Fund: This is the fund we use for all of the educational and programming aspects of the center, including exhibitions, gallery talks, films, studio equipment needs and student scholarships.
Your check should be payable to FAU FOUNDATION with one of the funds mentioned in the memo line. You can also give a donation with your credit card: we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
Our big goal this year is to build up the Education Fund so that we can offer more student scholarships for our varied workshops, which are often financially out of reach for FAU students. If you have have been blessed with much and are interested in perhaps establishing a workshop series that could be named for you or your company or in memory of a loved one, please email JCBA Director John Cutrone to discuss the possibilities. We are also raising funds to open a second studio at our Paper Lab at Historic T6, and there are naming opportunities for this and all of our studios.
Those of you who know us well know that most everything we do here at JCBA is in thanks to your support. In exchange for that support, you'll receive an even better Jaffe Center for Book Arts... as well as our heartfelt appreciation and a handwritten thank you note from Arthur, because that's the kind of guy he is.
We hope you can join us! But if you can't and still would like to send
Arthur a 92nd birthday remembrance, here's the address:
