Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence Program

JCBA is pleased to announce that Dorothy Simpson Krause has been selected as the inaugural Helen M. Salzberg Artist in Residence at JCBA. Her residency at JCBA is for the Spring Semester, 2012, which begins in January. Dot's project is called "River of Grass." It involves a limited edition drum leaf book that incorporates handmade paper, letterpress and inkjet prints. The project is inspired by Marjory Stoneman Douglas' seminal book "The Everglades: River of Grass," published in 1947, which helped drive the popular movement to save Florida's fragile Everglades wetlands.
Dorothy Simpson Krause is a painter, collage artist and
bookmaker who incorporates digital mixed media. She is Professor Emeritus at
Massachusetts College of Art and the author of Book + Art: Handcrafting
Artists' Books. As Artist in Residence she will be making a limited edition
book/ portfolio, "River of Grass", that will accompany her show at 571
Projects in NYC in June. The folios will be inkjet and letterpress printed
and the cover will be made in the new JCBA papermaking studio using grasses
from the Everglades.
Follow along as she uses facebook to share her
residency. Her favorite books have to be The Everglades: River of Grass by Marjory
Stoneman Douglas and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
