This guide was designed by Jacquelyn Erdman to help identify resources on Primary Resources and related topics in the FAU Boca Raton Library. The electronic resources are available from the FAU Libraries home page by following the links entitled Indexes/ Databases or Articles. Some of these resources have full-text articles available online. To access these resources from off campus, use the AEZ Proxy@ link and log in using your 14-digit Owl Card number. For further assistance, please contact the Reference Desk by telephone (561-297-3785) or send e-mail lyref@fau.edu.
Primary sources are original records created at the time historical events occurred or are recollections in the form of memoirs, diaries and/or oral histories.
Primary sources may include: letters, manuscripts, diaries, journals entries, newspapers, speeches, interviews, memoirs, government documents, catalogs, handbook, photographs, musical score, audio recordings, moving pictures, video recordings, research data, objects or artifacts.
Where to Find Primary Sources?
There are many print and digital resources available on primary source materials, other than databases.
Print and Digital Collections at FAU
To search these collections go to www.fau.edu/library and click on CATALOG. Use the ADVANCED SEARCH in the online catalog and look for the drop down menu that is for LOCATION. You can choose the location in the library to search for resources, such as "Boca Raton, Government Documents" or "Boca Raton, Special Collections".
If your search results come back and the item is a government document, audio/video recording, or an artifact (photograph/map), then that item is a primary resource. If the search results in a book, there are still a couple of ways to determine if the item is a primary resource. Ask yourself: Is it a letter, manuscript, diary, journals entry, newspaper, speech, interview, memoir, government document, catalog, handbook, photograph, musical score audio recording, moving picture, video recording, research data, object or artifact and is neither translated nor abridged? If yes, then this is a primary resource.
There are also books that are not primary resources but may contain illustrations, photographs, musical scores, maps and charts that are primary resources.

Value Line Investment
Survey Reports
The Value Line Investment Survey is one of the most widely used independent
investment information services in the world. Its up-to-date, weekly issues are
also a comprehensive reference that has something useful for virtually every
investor. In breadth of coverage it is encyclopedic, covering some 1,700 equity
issues. The Value Line Investment Survey, however, provides more than just
descriptive information. For each stock in its universe it offers year-ahead and
three- to five-year probable relative price performance, projections of key
financial measures, and concise, objective commentary on current operations and
future prospects. The Value Line Investment Survey's main section, "Ratings &
Reports," presents full-page, individual stock reports (encapsulating the
company's past performance, current status, and outlook) and industry reviews.
The "Summary & Index" provides a key to locating the latest quarterly and
supplementary reports and cites the most recent data on each of the stocks
followed. Finally, "Selection & Opinion," a feature section, gives Value Line's
views on the economy and the stock market and on stocks of special interest. It
also provides model portfolios for investors with various objectives and a
number of economic and stock-market statistics.
