This guide was designed by Dr. Darlene Ann Parrish, University Librarian, to provide the researcher with the steps for locating case studies and the resources that give access to cases in business. For further assistance, please ask at the Reference Desk, by telephone (561-297-3785), or by email (lyref@fau.edu).

IDENTIFY SEARCH TERMS

Identify the concepts and company name (if known) being discussed in the case study.
Make a list of possible search terms that can be used for each concept. (Examples: leadership or management; organizational commitment or employee commitment; and case studies or case study)

DEVELOP A SEARCH STRATEGY

The search strategy will depend on the type of resource. (Examples: FAU Catalog for books; ABI INFORM Global database for articles)

Consider using boolean operators, such as AND to narrow a search or the word OR to broaden a search. (Examples: culture AND sensitivity; stress OR burnout).
Consider using quotation marks in keyword searching so that the computer will search for words together as an exact phrase or term. (Examples: " organizational culture" and "case studies")
Consider using truncation (*) to find variant word endings. (Example: case stud* = case study, case studies)

DETERMINE WHICH RESOURCES TO USE
