FAU Libraries uses the Library of Congress Classification System. Under this system materials on Architecture will most often be found in the NA section (3rd floor, west wing) of the library. Related subject headings will have a variety of different classification assignments.

Full-text coverage for Art Index with Full Text begins in 1997. Art Index Retrospective is a bibliographic database that cumulates citations to Art Index volumes 1-32 of the printed index published between 1929-1984.

ArticleFirst (FirstSearch)

Offers bibliographic citations with some full text from more than 13,000 journals in business, the humanities, medicine, popular culture, science, social science and technology.  As of October 2001 the database has incorporated contents of OCLC's ContentsFirst.  Covers 1990 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Arts and Humanities (ATLA Religion Database) (CSA)

 Provides summaries of original research material on religious architecture.  Covers 1949 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Arts and Humanities Search (AH SEARCH) (FirstSearch)

Provides complete access to articles from more than 1,300 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals as well as access to relevant articles in over 5,000 social science and science journals.  Covers 1980 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals (Eureka)

This database offers broad listings of journal articles published worldwide on architecture and design, as well as archaeology, city planning, interior design and historic preservation.  The scope is international with inclusion of indexes for international scholarly and popular periodical literature, publications of professional associations, US state and regional periodicals, and major serial publications from Europe, Asia, Latin America and Australia.  Includes obituary citations which serve as an excellent biographical resource on professionals associated with these fields.  FYI, this database is the only comprehensive American index to the current periodical literature on architecture and design.  Updated weekly.  Covers 1930's to present (with some selective coverage dating back to the 1860's).  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Bibliography of the History of Art (Eureka)

Indexes and abstracts articles, art-related books, conference proceedings, dissertations, art exhibition and dealers' catalogs, covering European and American art (from late antiquity to present) in more than 2,500 periodicals.  Covers 1973 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections. 

Book Review

Book Review Digest Plus brings together the rich data of Book Review Digest, which includes descriptive summaries of books as well as excerpts of book reviews, with all the book review citations and full text of book reviews from eleven other H. W. Wilson indexes. Those indexes are: Applied Science & Technology Index, Art Index, Biological & Agricultural Index, Education Index, General Science Index, Humanities Index, Index to Legal Periodicals & Books, Library Literature & Information Science, Readers’ Guide to Periodical Literature, Social Sciences Index, and Business Periodicals Index.

Dissertation Abstracts Online (Dissertations) (FirstSearch)

Includes every dissertation completed at accredited US academic institutions since 1861, with some foreign language dissertations and master's theses.  Covers 1861 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Elseiver Science Direct (Elseiver)

Access to full-text articles from over 1,500 peer-reviewed, scholarly journals covering the arts, humanities, engineering, medicine, science and social sciences.  Also includes over 40 million abstracts  from scientific articles, and links out to articles from over 120 other publishers.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Ethnic NewsWatch (SoftLine Information Inc.)

Full text database of 700,000 articles from over 230 publications including newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press.  Includes local, national and international coverage of culture and history, arts and media, education, environment, sociology, politics and political science, ethnic and cultural studies, news and journalism, and Spanish.  Has search interfaces in both English and Spanish.  Covers 1990 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Expanded Academic ASAP (Gale Group)

Indexes articles in approximately 1,000 scholarly journals, news magazines and newspapers covering the arts, humanities, social sciences, science and technology.  Now in partnership with Ingenta, this database provides many articles in full text and with images.  Covers 1980 to present.  Available through FAU Libraries Electronic Collections and Webluis.

Groveart (Grove)

Most comprehensive online, full text reference resource for all aspects of the visual arts - architecture, decorative arts, graphic arts, painting, photography, sculpture - dating from prehistory to current.  Includes more than 45,000 signed articles, over 500,000 bibliographical citations, 30,000 links to color images (plus 130,000 searchable images), over 21,000 biographies and links to 1,000+ relevant web sites.  The scope of the database is multicultural.  It is updated quarterly.  Covers 1996 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Humanities Abstracts (Humanities Abs)

Subject areas include archaeology, area studies, art, classical studies, communications, dance, film, folklore, gender studies, history, journalism, linguistics, literary and social criticism literature, music, performing arts, philosophy, religion and theology. Full-text coverage begins in January 1995.

InfoTrac OneFile (Gale)

News and articles (some full text) on a large selection of topics including business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology and general interest topics.  Covers 1980 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Ingenta (Ingenta)

Online periodical article delivery service.  Provides access to 5,400 full text online publications, and indexes over 27,000 English-language periodicals in the following subject areas: agriculture/food sciences, arts and humanities, biology/life sciences, chemistry, computer and information sciences, earth/environmental sciences, economics and business, engineering/technology, mathematics and statistics, medicine, nursing, philosophy/linguistics, physics/astronomy, psychology/psychiatry and social sciences.  Many articles are for purchase only.  Covers 1997 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

LexisNexis Academic (LexisNexis)

Accesses over 1 billion full text news, magazine, legal and business articles and reports from newspapers and magazines (domestic and international), government documents, state and federal laws and regulations, case law, newsletters, and company and industry information.

N.B. Database no longer has full text archive for the Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Newsday, Hartford Courant or Morning Call, but will have rolling 6 months of data from these publications searchable through the Guided News search form.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections. 

netLibrary (OCLC)

A collection of over 40,000 eBooks covering a full range of subjects and giving full text access to research, reference and reading materials online.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Oxford Journals Online (OUP) (Oxford University Press)

Look for the Journal of Design History, a leading journal in its field.  It is covered by the following abstracting/indexing services: ABC CLIO: America: History and Life, Historical Abstracts; Artbibliographies Modern ABM; Art Index/Abstracts; Design and Applied Arts Index; and Periodicals Contents Index.  Includes regular book reviews and occasionally publishes special issues.  Articles available through ILL.  Covers 1997 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Periodicals Contents Index Full Text (PCI Full Text) (ProQuest)

Major online periodical archive which gives full image of periodical articles from thousands of scholarly journals dating back from the late eighteenth to the late twentieth centuries.  Includes 13 million article citations and 500,000 full text articles.  Covers 1770 to 1995.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

Project Muse (Johns Hopkins University Press)

Full text access to more than 200 scholarly journals in the fields of arts and humanities, mathematics and social sciences.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

The Timeline of Art History

The Timeline of Art History is a chronological, geographical, and thematic exploration of the history of art from around the world, as illustrated especially by The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. The Museum's curatorial, conservation, and educational staff.

Web of Science (Institute for Scientific Information)

Three unique citation databases: Arts and Humanities Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index and the Science Citation Index Expanded.  Contains bibliographic information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals.   Allows searching cited references and traditional searches, independently or in combination.  Covers 1945 to present.  Available through FAU Electronic Collections.

WilsonSelectPlus

Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition is a multi-disciplinary database providing the complete content - indexing, abstracts, and full text - from six of Wilson's full-text databases: Education Full Text, General Science Full Text, Humanities Full Text, Readers' Guide Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, and Wilson Business Full Text. Full-text articles from five additional periodical databases are also included when available: Applied Science & Technology Full Text, Art Full Text, Biological & Agricultural Index, Index to Legal Periodicals & Books, and Library Literature & Information Science Full Text. Full-text coverage begins in 1994. Each database has its own start dates for indexing, abstracting, and full text; start dates for full-text rights to individual journals vary within a database.
