GOVERNMENT WEB SITES
U.S. Code
The U.S.
Code is the codification of the U.S. general and permanent laws arranged by
titles, which are broad subject areas. This government WEB site provides access
to the most current revisions of the U.S. Code. Searches can be done
using keywords and citations or by browsing the 50 titles covering the broad subject
areas. (The U.S. Code is also available in paper
in the Reference Collection and the call number is REF KF62.A2 U5.)
Code of Federal
Regulations
The Code of
Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent
rules of the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government
published in the Federal Register. It is arranged in 50 titles
covering
broad subjects, which can be browsed or searched using keywords and
citations. (The Code of Federal Regulations is also
available in paper in the
Reference Collection, and the call number is REF KF70 .A3.)
Federal Register
The Federal Register is a daily compilation of the rules, proposed rules and
notices of Federal agencies and organizations and can be browsed by daily
"Contents" or searched by keywords and citations. (The

Florida Statutes and
Constitution
The Florida Statutes contains the laws of the state of
Florida (and the Constitution), which are arranged by titles or broad
subject areas. The titles can be browsed or searched using keywords or
citations. (The Florida Statutes are
also available in paper
in the Reference Collection, and the call number is REF KFF30.A2 F55.
Florida Administrative Code
The Florida Administrative Code contains the rules and regulations of the
state departments, agencies and organizations and can be searched by
keywords or citations (rule numbers).
Florida Administrative Weekly
Any changes in the rules and regulations of the states agencies are first
reported in this weekly publication. (The Florida Administrative
Weekly is also available in paper in the Reference Collection,
and the call number is

Statistical Abstract of
the United States
This publication is a compilation of social, political and economic
statistical information of the Unites States and can be searched using
keywords or by browsing different sections (e.g. "Education").
ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Electronic databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at
(http://www.fau.edu/library) by selecting "Indexes/Databases"
under the heading of "Quick Links." When accessing the databases
remotely, select the link for the “EZproxy” server.
ABI/INFORM Global
Gives references to journal articles on public administration topics with
some full text
articles.
CQ Public Affairs Collection
Provides in-depth reports with statistical and historical
analyses of such areas as education, environment, energy, transportation and
others.
CQ Researcher Plus Archive
This database gives access to reports on "hot" topics of current interest,
such as energy, technology and development, health, education, the
environment and others.
Criminology: A SAGE Full-Text Collection Provides access to
full text articles in 23 journals published by Sage in such areas as
criminal justice, juvenile delinquency, policing and many others.
LexisNexis Academic
This electronic resource is a good starting point for finding the texts of federal and state cases.
Cases can be searched using keywords or legal citations.
LexisNexis Congressional
The user of this electronic resource can search the Congressional Record,
Federal Register and the National Journal. Proposed legislation can be
searched by keyword and sponsor.
LEXIS-NEXIS Statistical
Provides summaries and links to statistical
information in U.S. government publications.
PAIS International
Provides information, including economic data, from publications for over
120 countries around the world. Publications indexed are journal
articles, books, government documents, conference reports and others.
Urban Studies & Planning: A SAGE Full-Text Collection
Gives access to full text articles in such areas as
public administration, urban and regional planning, economic
development and others.
Web of Science
Provides access to references to articles (and cited references), from
Social Sciences Citation Index, Science Citation Index and Arts & Humanities
Citation Index.
Westlaw Campus This is another good resource for finding
the full text of federal and state court cases. Natural language
searching is used, so queries can be made in the form of a question.
INTERNET VS. ELECTRONIC DATABASES
If you are not using one of the “Electronic Databases” listed
above or other databases via the FAU
Libraries Electronic Collection or government WEB sites (e.g.
U.S. Code) you
need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information
from the INTERNET:
1. How authoritative is the source of the information?
2. How accurate is the information?
3. How reliable is the information?
4. How current is the information?
5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
