The selected sources listed below are useful for finding articles and information about companies and the global environment in which they operate.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic databases are available from FAU Libraries home page at http://www.fau.edu/library by selecting "Research Resources" and then "Indexes/Databases". When accessing the databases remotely, select the link for the "EZproxy" server.

Ø ABI/INFORM Global (ProQuest Direct) This is a good source of information for finding articles about technological, regulatory, political and ethical issues that impact companies in the global environment. It contains some full-text articles. Searches can be limited to just "scholarly journals."

Ø Business and Company Resource Center  (Gale Group) Provides basic and detailed information on both public and privately held companies. The reports on companies usually include company histories and chronologies, rankings and financial information. Searches can be done by using company name or industry name or number (SIC or NAICS).

Ø      CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online) This authoritative source is useful for research on international affairs and current political and economic developments around the world. It contains articles and case studies that can be found in scholarly journals, working papers and books.

Ø     Country Commerce (EIU) The focus of this database is to provide practical information on commercial laws and business regulations for 50 countries around the world in a full text format. It is especially useful for information on starting businesses in other countries.

Ø     Country Watch This comprehensive database gives access to reports on 192 countries around the world that provide political, economic, social and environmental analyses. 

Ø     Lexis Nexis Academic This useful resource contains full text articles on social, technological, regulatory and political issues. In addition to the “Business” news component, there is a component entitled “Legal Research,” which gives access to articles on legal and regulatory issues, and statutory laws and court cases.

Ø     Marketline Business Information Centre (MBIC) This database is helpful for finding information on global issues that would impact companies. It gives access to current business information about companies (including those that are foreign owned) and industries in 50 countries.

Ø     Mergent Online Provides in-depth financial information on U.S. public companies and international companies. Access to the EDGAR (SEC) filings, such as the 10K, is also available.

Ø     Newsbank (Access World News) This database gives access to full text articles, which include business news items, from more than 500 international sources. Searches can be limited to a specific region or country.

Ø     Plunkett Research The most useful feature of this database is the access to reports dealing with “Marketing Research and Trends.” These reports include information on domestic and international markets for various industries. Another useful feature is the glossary of business terms.

Ø     Standard & Poor’s (S & P) NetAdvantage Included in this database are reports on industries and public companies. The industry reports are fairly current and include information about trends and domestic and global issues of concern.

Ø     Wall Street Journal (ProQuest) This authoritative source contains full text articles, from 1984 to the present, about companies and industries, many with a global emphasis.

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the "Electronic Databases" listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

1. How authoritative is the source of the information?

2. How accurate is the information?

3. How reliable is the information?

4. How current is the information?

5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
