The selected sources listed below are useful for finding information about countries, industries, and companies within an industry, in order to develop a plan for doing business in a particular country.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic databases provide access to articles and other types of information and are available from the FAU Libraries home page at (http://www.fau.edu/library) by selecting “Indexes/Databases” under the heading "Quick Links."

Remember to select the link for “Off Campus Connect(EZproxy)” when accessing these databases remotely.

ABI/INFORM Complete  (ProQuest)
This is a good source of information for finding articles about companies and industries and the technological, regulatory, political and ethical issues that impact them within a global environment. It contains some full text articles. Searches can be limited to just “scholarly journals.”

Business and Company Resource Center
Provides basic and detailed information on both public and privately held companies and multinationals. The reports on companies usually include financial information, competitor information, rankings and industry and other information. Searches can be done by using company name or industry name or number (SIC or NAICS).

Business Source Premier
This database is also recommended for finding articles (some with the full text) about companies, industries and the global environment in which they operate.

CIAO (Columbia International Affairs Online)
This authoritative source is useful for research on international affairs and current political and economic developments around the world. It contains articles and case studies that can be found in scholarly journals, working papers and books.

Country Commerce (EIU)
The focus of this database is to provide practical information on commercial laws and business regulations for 50 countries around the world in a full text format. It is especially useful for information on starting businesses in other countries.

Country Watch
This comprehensive database gives access to reports on approximately 192 countries around the world that provide political, economic, social and environmental analyses.  This is a good source for information about "cultural etiquette."

Lexis Nexis Academic
This useful resource contains full text articles on social, technological, regulatory and political issues. In addition to the “Business” component, there is a "Legal" component, which gives access to articles on legal and regulatory issues, and statutory laws and court cases.

MarketLine Business Information Centre (MBIC)
This database is helpful for finding information on global issues that would impact companies. It provides access to current business information about companies (including those that are foreign owned) and industries in 50 countries.

Mergent Online
This database is especially useful for locating detailed financial information on public companies. There is also a section of the database that includes the SEC filings.

Newsbank (Access World News)
This database gives access to full text articles, which include business news items, from more than 500 international sources. Searches can be limited to a specific region or country.

Plunkett Research
The most useful feature of this database is the access to reports dealing with “Marketing Research and Trends.” These reports include information on domestic and international markets for various industries. Another useful feature is the glossary of business terms.

Standard & Poor’s (S & P) NetAdvantage
Included in this database are reports on industries and public companies. The industry reports are fairly current and include information about trends and domestic and global issues of concern.

Wall Street Journal (ProQuest)
This authoritative source contains full text articles, from 1984 to the present, about companies and industries, many with a global emphasis.  This database can also be searched in
ABI/INFORM Complete .

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the “Electronic Databases” listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you may want to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

1. How authoritative is the source of the information?
2. How accurate is the information?
3. How reliable is the information?
4. How current is the information?
5. How relevant is the information to my topic?

A Guide to Writing Research Papers is a helpful online source that is based on the APA style manual.
