LIT 2010: RESEARCH IN THE INTERPRETATION OF LITERATURE

PROFESSOR MARQUART

LIBRARIAN: KEN FRANKEL

NOVEMBER 9, 2007

The selected sources listed below are useful for finding information in books and articles about the interpretation of fiction.

FAU LIBRARIES CATALOG

  • The Library Catalog allows you to search for books, government documents, DVDs, electronic books, and other materials in the Library's collection. The catalog will tell you if the library owns a particular periodical (journal or magazine) but does not include the articles found in periodicals. To find these you must use a different database (see below).

  • The Advanced search screen allows you to combine terms using “and, or, not” as well as limiting a search by location, date, format, or language.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic Databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page under  "Quick Links" and then "Indexes/Databases". When accessing the databases from off campus, first be sure to click on the Off Campus Connect link and log in using your 14-digit Owl Card number.

  • Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
Provides a complete one-stop source for information on social issues. Accesses viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

  • Biography Resource Center + The Complete Marquis Who's Who®
A comprehensive database of biographical information on more than one million people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas.

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the "Electronic Databases" listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

  1. How authoritative is the source of information?

  2. How accurate is the information?

  3. How reliable is the information?

  4. How current is the information?

  5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
