The selected electronic resources listed below are useful for finding
books and journal articles on various topics and for finding the U.S. accounting,
auditing, governmental and SEC rules and how they are applied in practice.
WEB SITES
AICPA
Information about the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants and its publications can be found at this WEB site.
EDGAR Database of Corporate Information (SEC)
This is the official WEB site of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The latest and historical filings can be located by selecting the link “Search
for Company Filings.”
FASB This is the WEB site of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and
provides limited access to some its publications.
ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Electronic databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at
(http://www.fau.edu/library) by selecting “Indexes/Databases”
under "Quick Links." When accessing the databases remotely,
select the link entitled “Off
Campus Connect” for the EZproxy server.
ABI/INFORM
Global
Provides references to journal articles on various accounting topics.
Searches can be limited to peer-reviewed or scholarly journals and full text
articles. ABI/INFORM Complete can also be used to search multiple business
databases including Global, Archive, Dateline and Trade & Industry.
Accounting
Research Manager This is the primary resource for finding U.S. accounting,
auditing, governmental and SEC rules and how they are applied in practice,
including "best practices."
Business Source Premier This database provides references to
full text articles on accounting and other business topics. Searches
can be limited to "peer-reviewed" or "scholarly" journals in the "Advanced
Search" screen.
LEXIS-NEXIS Academic
Includes current articles from the accounting literature, such as
journals, reports, releases and bulletins. Information can be accessed
by going to "Business News" and then "Accounting." Most effective way of searching is
by typing keywords in the “Headline.”
Mergent Online
This database is especially useful for locating detailed financial information
on public companies, including a section on SEC filings. Reports
can be created on company comparisons by setting specific parameters
for financial data, such as assets and liabilities.
PAIS International Provides access to articles about governmental
accounting, budgeting and finance.
Wall
Street Journal 1984-Present
Provides full text access to articles, which can be searched by subjects or keywords.
EVALUATING INFORMATION
If you are not using one of the “Electronic Databases” listed
above or other databases via the FAU
Libraries Electronic Collection, you
need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information
from the Internet:
1. How authoritative is the source of the information?
2. How accurate is the information?
3. How reliable is the information?
4. How current is the information?
5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
