The selected sources listed below are useful for finding articles and
information, including statistics, about health care topics.
ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Electronic databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at
(http://www.fau.edu/library) by selecting “Research Resources” and
then "Indexes/Databases." When accessing the databases
remotely, select the link for the “EZproxy” server.
ABI/INFORM Dateline (ProQuest Direct)
Contains information on local and regional business news topics, and public
and privately held companies in health care and other industries.
ABI/INFORM Global (ProQuest Direct)
This is a good source of information for finding articles about technological,
regulatory and political issues that impact health care. It contains
some full-text articles. Searches can be limited to “scholarly
journals.”
Business and Company Resource Center (Gale Group)
Provides basic and detailed information on both public and privately held
companies. The reports on companies usually include company histories
and chronologies, rankings and financial information. Searches can be
done using company name or by industry name or number (SIC or NAICS).
Health
Reference Center – Academic (Gale Group)
Contains many full-text articles about such topics as public health, fitness,
medicine, health insurance, and prescription drugs.
Lexis Nexis Academic
This database is a useful source for full-text articles on social, technological,
regulatory and political issues. In addition to the “Business” news
component, there is a component entitled “Legal Research,” which
gives access to articles on legal and regulatory issues, and statutory
laws and court cases.
Standard & Poor’s (S & P)
NetAdvantage
Included in this database are surveys of health care and other industries
and reports on public companies.
STATISTICS
The statistical sources are both in paper and on the WEB. Listed below are
selected resources that provide demographic and economic data.
Florida Statistical Abstract (UF2:S8/YEAR)
This source is located in “Ready Reference” behind the Reference
Desk, on the first floor of the East Wing of the Library. It is a compilation
of various types of statistics arranged by county and city.
U.S. Census Bureau
The best way to search for demographic and economic information in this
WEB site is to select “American FactFinder,” and then search
by “geographic location” or “keyword.”
Statistical Abstract of the United States
This source is a compilation of statistics for various areas such as population,
housing, economics, labor and education.
Office of Economic and Demographic Research
This WEB site is easy to search and has a lot of demographic and other
statistical information about Florida and local areas.
