Activities: In this session we will cover how to access the
Library's catalog and databases and where to locate useful resources for
completing assignments. Some useful databases will be demonstrated and
information on citing sources will be presented.
Goals: At the conclusion of this session you will be able to:
- Access the library's catalog from home or campus;
- Choose helpful databases for doing management/business research;
- Know how to navigate selected databases and retrieve chosen records;
Accessing
Information:
The address of the Library’s web site is (http://www.fau.edu/library). To access
the databases/electronic journals using EZ Proxy, go to Quick Links on the homepage and
click <EZ Proxy>.
To find the class web page, go to
Quick Links and click <Instructional Services> and then
click <Class Web Pages – Fall 2004>
Print journals owned
by the Library can be found by doing a Journal/Magazine Title search in
the catalog. To see if a title is included within an electronic database,
search Electronic Journals by title from the Electronic Collection
page.
Health Sciences and Business databases can be found by going
to Research Resources and selecting Index/Databases followed by
Databases by Subject. There is also available a
What's Your Major
webpage and a
Research
Guide on Health Administration.

contains some full text articles. Searches can be limited to “full

Contents/Info: This is an excellent starting
point for conducting a SWOT analysis of a company. This database
includes detailed information about companies, such as the history and
financial data.

Contents/Info: This database is especially
useful for locating detailed financial information on public companies.
There is also a section of the database that includes the SEC filings.

McGraw-Hill
Contents/Info: Provides reports on companies and the
industries in which they operate. Information includes industry trends,
company rankings within an industry, and industry statistics.
