The selected sources listed below are useful for finding articles and information about companies and the global environment in which they operate.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at    http://www.fau.edu/library by selecting "Indexes/Databases" under "Quick Links."

 Remember to select the link for "Off Campus Connect" when accessing any of the electronic databases remotely.

Ø   ABI/INFORM Complete (Global, Archive, Dateline, Trade & Industry)
Gives references to articles on companies, industries and human resource management issues from journals, trade publications, magazines and newspapers, including some international publications.  Searches can be limited to “full text” articles and “scholarly journals.”

Ø   Business & Company Resource Center
This is an excellent starting point for conducting a SWOT analysis of a company.  This database includes detailed information, such as the history, financial data, and management and legal issues, on public and many private companies.  It also provides an analysis of the industry in which a company operates.

Ø   General Business File ASAP (Gale Group)
Gives references to articles on companies, industries and human resource management issues. It includes many full text articles, which can be limited to "refereed" or scholarly publications.

Ø   LEXIS-NEXIS Academic
Includes current articles about companies from newswires, journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Information can be accessed by going to "Business"  and then searching by company name.

Ø   MarketLine Business Information Centre (MBIC)
This database is helpful for finding information on global issues that would impact companies. It provides access to current business information about companies (including those that are foreign owned) and industries in 50 countries. 

Ø   Standard & Poor's (S&P) NetAdvantage
Provides detailed information on public companies and the industries in which they operate. Industry information includes trends, top competitors within an industry, and industry statistics.

Ø Wall Street Journal 1984-Present
Provides full text access to articles from the newspaper, which can be searched by company name or keywords.

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the "Electronic Databases" listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

1. How authoritative is the source of the information?
2. How accurate is the information?
3. How reliable is the information?
4. How current is the information?
5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
