HOW TO FIND LIBRARY RESOURCES AND ELECTRONIC
RESOURCES
FAU LIBRARIES CATALOG
BOOKS
For example: Literary Criticism--Falkner
Click on the "Catalog". This source lists the books, government
documents, videos, and other materials owned by the FAU libraries. It
will tell you what books and journals, etc. the library owns. To find
the actual journal articles you may choose to search by subject or
keyword in the databases listed below.
A. Keywords: May search for two
keywords using the terms and/or/not to limit search.
B. Author's Name: Use last
name first with no commas.
C. Title: If the title begins
with A, An or The, skip the first word and begin
searching with the next word.
D. Subject: Must be specific
to Library of Congress search terms. Use dashes in narrowing
your search.
WAYS TO FIND ARTICLES
A. Use
EZ Proxy
link for off-campus access. The link is on the Libraries' Home Page under
Connect from Off Campus
B.
Interlibrary Loan
a service through which one library
lends an item from its collection, or provides a photocopy
of an item, to another library.

is extremely helpful in searching for articles
that cross databases.

ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Electronic Databases are available from the FAU
Libraries home page at
http://www.fau.edu/library
by selecting
"Indexes/Databases" under the heading
"Quick Links." When accessing the databases
remotely, be sure to select the "Off Campus Connect" link
for the
"EZproxy"
server.
Databases help you locate journal and magazine articles that are relevant to your specific research topic.
You may search the databases by title
or subject.
Literature Resource Center - LRC, Scribner, Twayne US,
Twayne English, and Twayne World Authors
Contents/Info: Delivers biographical and bibliographical
information on authors and their works. Covers authors
of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, history, and
journalism.
Literature Online (LION)
Contents/Info: Provides access to more than 350,000
works of English and American poetry, drama and prose,
180 full-text literature journals, and other key
criticism and reference resources.
MLA International Bibliography
Contents/Info: Provides a detailed bibliography of
journal articles, books and dissertations. The indexed
materials coverage is international. Subjects consist of
literature, language and linguistics, folklore, literary
theory & criticism, dramatic arts, as well as the
historical aspects of printing and publishing. Listings
on rhetoric and composition and the history, theory and
practice of teaching language and literature are also
included.
For General Research:
OmniFile Full Text Mega Edition
Contents/Info:
Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition
is a multi-disciplinary database providing the complete
content - indexing, abstracts, and full text - from six
of Wilson's full-text databases: Education Full Text,
General Science Full Text, Humanities Full Text,
Readers' Guide Full Text, Social Sciences Full Text, and
Wilson Business Full Text. Full-text articles from five
additional periodical databases are also included when
available: Applied Science & Technology Full Text, Art
Full Text, Biological & Agricultural Index, Index to
Legal Periodicals & Books, and Library Literature &
Information Science Full Text. Full-text coverage begins
in 1994. Each database has its own start dates for
indexing, abstracting, and full text; start dates for
full-text rights to individual journals vary within a
database.
JSTOR
Contents/Info: Journal Storage (More than 500 scholarly
journals in education, humanities, mathematics, science
[including the General Science Collection and Ecology
and Botany Collection], and social science disciplines)
InfoTrac OneFile
Contents/Info: A one-stop source for news and periodical
articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers,
current events, economics, education, environmental
issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law,
literature and art, politics, science, social science,
sports, technology, and many general interest topics.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
Contents/Info: Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center draws
on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from
other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources to
provide a complete one-stop source for information on
social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic
overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to
websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.
