The selected sources listed below are useful for finding books, articles, and primary sources.

HOW TO FIND LIBRARY RESOURCES AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

FAU LIBRARIES CATALOG

 BOOKS

  • For example: Salinger--literary criticism

Click on the "Catalog". This source lists the books, government documents, videos, and other materials owned by the FAU libraries. It will tell you what books and journals, etc. the library owns. To find the actual journal articles you may choose to search by subject or keyword in the databases listed below.

    A. Keywords: May search for two keywords using the terms and/or/not to limit search.

    B. Author's Name: Use last name first with no commas.

    C. Title: If the title begins with A, An or The, skip the first word and begin  searching with the next word.

    D. Subject: Must be specific to Library of Congress search terms. Use dashes in narrowing your search.

    WAYS TO FIND ARTICLES

Note: when using the electronic journals and indexes/databases from off-campus you must first log in through the Off Campus Connect (EZproxy). You will need to enter the 14-digit number from your Owl Card in order to do this and the last four digits of your soc security number.

    A. Finding an Electronic Journal Article:

    Electronic Journals
Searching for a specific article or journal title? Use the Electronic Journals link to determine if the Library provides electronic access. Click on the letter corresponding to the journal's title or type the title in the box next to "Title begins with." This box may also be used to search keywords in an electronic journal's title. The Citation Linker near the bottom of the page can be used to search for a specific article.

    B. Finding Articles in Indexes/Databases:

    Indexes/Databases

Searching for articles on a certain subject? FAU Library provides access to hundreds of interdisciplinary and subject-specific databases,  which may include citations, abstracts (summaries) and/or the full text of electronic journal articles. If the database being searched does not provide full text, click on the SFX button to check all FAU subscribed-to databases for the full text article. If there is no link to the full text available, then click on the FAU Libraries Catalog to see if the journal is available in print or microfilm in the Library. Articles not available in electronic, print or microfilm by FAU may be ordered through the Interlibrary Loan service (see below).

    ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic Databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at http://www.fau.edu/library by selecting "Indexes/Databases" under the heading "Quick Links." When accessing the databases remotely, be sure to select the "Off Campus Connect" link for the "EZproxy" server.

Databases help you locate journal and magazine articles that are relevant to your specific research topic. You may search the databases by title or subject.
