  • Subject searching Go to the "Basic Search" screen and from the "Browse Organized Lists" menu and select "Subjects, All."  Type in the following Library of Congress subject headings (with dashes for subheadings):

  • Keyword searching:  Go to the "Advanced Search" screen and type in your keywords using "Title Keyword(s)." (Example:  ethnicity and communication)

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Electronic Databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at http://www.fau.edu/library by selecting "Research Resources" or "Quick Links" and then "Indexes/Databases". When accessing the databases remotely, be sure to select the link for the "EZproxy" server.

  • Ethnic NewsWatch and Ethnic NewsWatch: A History  Gives access to articles in journals, magazines and newspapers from ethnic, minority and native presses, with some articles in Spanish.
     

  • Expanded Academic ASAP
    This general index gives references to articles (some with the full text) on communication across cultures, from a wide range of periodicals.
     

  • GenderWatch  Provides references to articles on women's issues in scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, regional publications, books and special reports.

  • Humanities Full Text  This database includes some full text articles on subject areas including communications, gender studies and many others.

  • Psychology: A SAGE Full-Text Collection  Provides access to articles (some with the full text) on subject areas such as family studies, child development, cross-cultural psychology, educational psychology, sociology of race and ethnicity and many others.

  • PsycINFO 
    This electronic resource is very comprehensive and provides references to articles in the area of psychology and related disciplines in the international literature.  The coverage is from 1806 to the present.
     

  • Social Sciences Full Text
    This database includes articles from journals, books, and papers on such subject areas as ethics, family studies, gerontology, minority studies, gender studies and others.
     

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the "Electronic Databases" listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

  1. How authoritative is the source of information?

  2. How accurate is the information?

  3. How reliable is the information?

  4. How current is the information?

  5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
