The selected sources listed below are useful for finding books and articles on various topics dealing with architectural design.

FAU LIBRARIES CATALOG AND JOURNALS
 

Searching for Books:
Begin at the FAU Libraries home page and select "Library Catalog" under "Quick Links." Go to the "Advanced Search" screen and choose "Title" or "Anywhere"  and type in your keywords.  (Example:  architectural design and case studies.)
 

Searching for Journals:
If you are looking for electronic copies of journals, begin at the
FAU Libraries home page and select "Electronic Journals" under "Quick Links." Search by title or by subject category, such as "Art, Architecture & Applied Arts."

If you are looking for paper copies of journals, begin at the FAU Libraries home page and select "Library Catalog" under "Quick Links." At the "Basic Search" screen, select "Journal Title" and type in your title, such as "Architectural Digest."

ELECTRONIC DATABASES

Searching for Articles:
Articles can be found by searching in electronic databases, which are available from the FAU Libraries home page at http://www.fau.edu/library by selecting "Indexes/Databases" under "Quick Links."

Remember to select the link "Off Campus Connect" when accessing the databases remotely. 

  • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
    This electronic resource provides access to journal articles on architecture and design in over 1,000 U.S. and foreign architectural publications.
     

  • Art Index Full Text
    Provides access to articles on topics dealing with architecture, architectural design, architectural history, landscape architecture, and other subject areas.  Coverage is from 1984 to the present, with full text articles beginning in 1997.
     

  • Art Index Retrospective
    This is a good resource for references to articles in older publications from 1929 through 1984.  Subjects indexed include architecture, architectural design, architectural history, landscape architecture, and others. 

  • ARTstor 
    Contains 8,000 digital images, from the Department of Architecture and Design of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. 
     

  • Design & Applied Arts Index (DAAI) Indexes articles from design and applied arts publications.  Some of the subject areas covered include architecture, computer aided design, industrial design, garden design and landscape architecture.

  • JSTOR
    This is a collection of full text articles that includes several journals  dealing with architecture and architectural history.  Articles can be located by keyword searching or browsing contents of journals.
     

EVALUATING INFORMATION

If you are not using one of the "Electronic Databases" listed above or other databases via the FAU Libraries Electronic Collection, you need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information from the Internet:

  1. How authoritative is the source of information?

  2. How accurate is the information?

  3. How reliable is the information?

  4. How current is the information?

  5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
