The
selected resources listed below are useful for finding
books and articles on various topics in accounting and for finding the U.S. accounting,
auditing, governmental and SEC rules and how they are applied in practice.

FAU LIBRARIES CATALOG

Subject Searching:
At the "Basic
Search" screen select "Subject Heading"
from the menu and type in the following subject
headings (with dashes for subheadings):

ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Electronic databases are available from the FAU Libraries home page at
(http://www.fau.edu/library) by selecting “Indexes/Databases”
under "Quick Links."
Remember to select the link
entitled "Off Campus
Connect" for the EZproxy server when accessing databases remotely.
ABI/INFORM Complete
Provides references to journal and magazine articles on various accounting topics.
Searches can be conducted in multiple databases including
ABI/INFORM Global,
ABI/INFORM Dateline,
ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry and
ABI/INFORM Archive Complete and others. Searches
can be limited to peer-reviewed or scholarly journals and full text
articles.
Accounting
Research Manager
This is the primary resource for finding U.S. accounting,
auditing, governmental and SEC rules and how they are applied in practice,
including "best practices."
Business Source Premier
This database provides references to
full text articles on accounting and other business topics. Searches
can be limited to "peer-reviewed" or "scholarly" journals in the "Advanced
Search" screen.
LEXIS-NEXIS Academic
Includes current articles from the accounting literature, such as
journals, reports, releases and bulletins. Information can be accessed
by going to "Business" and then "Accounting."
"Natural Language" or "Terms and Connectors" searches can be done by
typing in keywords.
Mergent Online
This database is especially useful for locating detailed financial information
on public companies, including the SEC filings. Company
comparison reports
can be created by setting specific parameters
for financial data, such as assets and liabilities.
PAIS International Provides access to articles about governmental
accounting, budgeting and finance.
Wall
Street Journal 1984-Present
Provides full text access to articles, which can be searched by subjects or keywords.
This database can also be searched in ABI/INFORM Complete.
WEB SITES
AICPA
Information about the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants and its publications can be found at this WEB site.
EDGAR Database of Corporate Information (SEC)
This is the official WEB site of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The latest and historical filings can be located by selecting the link “Search
for Company Filings.”
FASB
This is the WEB site of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and
provides limited access to some of its publications.
EVALUATING INFORMATION
If you are not using one of the “Electronic Databases” listed
above or other databases via the FAU
Libraries Electronic Collection, you
need to consider some of the following questions when evaluating information
from the Internet:
1. How authoritative is the source of the information?
2. How accurate is the information?
3. How reliable is the information?
4. How current is the information?
5. How relevant is the information to my topic?
CITING REFERENCES

APA
Formatting and Style Guide (published by Purdue University) is a
useful online resource for writing papers and properly citing references
using the APA style. Especially useful is a section on citing
electronic resources.
