Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What is my 14 Digit OWL Card Number?

At the bottom of most OWL cards, a number appears with the letter "A" on either end. This number is the often required 14-digit number needed to access library databases from home. It is also known as the User ID. Remember when you enter your number to omit the "A"s - as they are not numbers.

Should your OWL card not show your 14 digit number, you must come to the FAU library for the bar code reader to reveal the 14 digit number implicit in your OWL card's bar code. It is suggested that you place a sticker on the back of your OWL card once you have obtained your 14 digit number.

If your 14 digit number does not work, either your registration is not current in the registrar's computer* or you have made a mistake entering your number. Sometimes the numbers are difficult to read, but every FAU 14 digit number begins 219760.

If further assistance is needed, please contact the Reference Department via telephone @(561)297-3785 or email Ask A Librarian .

For more information concerning your OWL card please contact Access Services via telephone@ 561-297-3762,  LYCIRC@fau.edu or their website Access Services.

*If your registration is not current, please contact the Registrar’s office @ (561)297-3050.
