Doctoral dissertations and Master’s theses can often be more difficult to obtain through ILL than other types of materials. In most cases, only the library of the institution granting the degree will own it. Also, many libraries have restrictive lending policies regarding these materials.

The ILL Department can attempt to order your requests for dissertations and/or theses from libraries owning them. However, there may be another option available: purchase through Dissertation Express.

Dissertation Express is a service of ProQuest which sells copies of dissertations and theses from most U.S. and some foreign universities. You can order directly from Dissertation Express with you credit card, or by calling 1-800-521-3042.

The ILL Department can also place Dissertation Express orders for you at a discounted price of $28 each. To do this, submit your request(s) through ILLiad, indicating in the Notes field that you would like it ordered through Dissertation Express, and in the Cost field that you would be willing to pay over $20.
