Government Documents Microforms


Government Documents Microforms are located along the North West end of the Government Document Department. Many Documents are arranged according to the Superintendent of Documents classification system. CIS Legislative products can be searched using the ProQuest Congressional database (Owl Card needed for off-campus access). CIS Statistical products can be searched using the Indexes located in the Government Documents Reference Collection.

LEGISLATIVE:

  • CIS Publications of the United States Congress: v.1-January 1970-

    Hearings, prints, and documents of the U.S. House, Senate and Joint Committees.
    Access is by: subject, author, individual witness, government agency, subcommittee,
    names of bills or public laws, titles of publications, number of bills, reports and
    documents, and names of committee and sub committee chairman. Library has
    complete microfiche collection. Index for this collection is located at

  • CIS U.S. Congressional Committee Hearings:

    Covers published hearings from 1833 to 1979 :- "Expert witnesses from all sectors
    of society have provided their views to Congress on proposed bills, topical matters
    of public concern, the operation of federal programs, the suitability of presidential
    appointments, and much more. Typically, thoroughly researched and prepared,
    these presentations often provide a valuable resource." Library has
    complete microfiche collection. Index for this collection is located at

  • CIS US Congressional Committee Prints, 1830-1969, v.1- :

    "Committee prints have been called the "homework" of Congress. Prepared by
    committee research staffs, by the Library of Congress, or by independent
    consultants, they have evolved over the years as a means of providing members
    with the authoritative background information needed to consider complex
    issues of national policy." Library has complete microfiche collection. Index for

    "Gives researchers precise access to documents from federal executive
    agencies in existence during the time covered by the US Government's Checklist of

  • CIS U.S. Serial Set, v.1-

    "Information published by and for the U.S. Congress between 1789 and 1969
    including the American State Papers. It covers: Congressional publications
    including committee reports on public and private legislation, House and
    Senate journals, directories, rule manuals, and histories of Congress and the
    Capitol; Executive Branch publications including department and agency annual
    reports and special recurring publications; and non governmental publications
    including reprints from magazines, newspapers, journals and other sources.
    Indices include subject and keyword, names of individuals or organizations, titles,
    numerical lists of reports and documents, and a shelf list by serial number." Library

  • Unpublished US House of Representatives Committee Hearings, 1833-1968. v.1-

    The collection was filmed from the holdings of the National Archives in
    Washington, DC. The full texts of previously unpublished transcripts. Library has
    complete microfiche collection. Index for this collection is located at
    DOC REF KF 40.C54 1992.

  • Unpublished US Senate Committee Hearings, 1823-1976, v.1-

    "Thousands of congressional hearings have until recently remained unpublished,
    uncataloged, to the majority of researchers. Some hearings were declared confidential
    because of national security. CIS filmed the collection from the only known copies,
    of the transcripts in existence-those in Senate offices, the files of the National Archives
    in Washington, DC, and major repositories of papers of US Senators." Library has
    complete microfiche collection. Index to this collection is located at

  • CIS American Statistics Index and Collection (ASI) 1974- ,:

    ASI aims to be a master guide and index to the Statistical Publications
    of the U.S. Government. Current Indexes for this collection are located in
    the microforms room. Previous indexes (starting from 1974) are located at
    DOC REF Z 1223.Z7 C55.

  • CIS Statistical Reference Index and Collection (SRI) 1980- :

    SRI aims to provide users a guide and index to selected statistical reference material
    from non-Federal sources. These sources present basic National and State data on
    business, industry, finance, economic and social conditions, government and politics,
    the environment, and population. Curent Indexes for this collection are located in
    the microforms room. Previous indexes (starting from 1980) are located at
    DOC REF Z 7554.U5 S852.

  • CIS Index to International Statistics (IIS) 1983- ,:

    IIS focuses on coverage of basic economic, demographic, industrial and social statistics
    of general research value and national, international, or worldwide scope. Current Indexes
    for this collection are located in the microforms room. Previous indexes (starting from 1983)
    are located at

  • Census of Population and Housing:

    The United States Census: 1790 through 1970 are available on microfilm. Data files only,
    FAU Library does not have the Enumerations or Soundex files for genealogical research.
    Please see National Archives and Records Administration Genealogy webpage and the
    U.S. Census Bureau Genealogy webpage for genealogical assistance. The 1980 and 1990
    Census available in paper format (call no. C 3.215:.., C 3.223/.., etc.) in the
    Government Documents area.
