PLAGIARISM - April 28, 2008
News item: Some academic journals may start using an anti-plagiarism software, CrossCheck, on article submissions. In another case related to plagiarism, the University of Florida has begun an internal investigation into one of its professors who has admitted to taking words and passages from newspaper and magazine articles and claiming them as his own.

FOOD RIOTS & SOARING FOOD PRICES - April 21, 2008
News item: Surging global food prices have caused riots and protests throughout Haiti, Niger, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Egypt. Many other countries also face social unrest. According to the World Bank, food prices have risen over 80 percent within the past three years. Some of the factors causing the price hikes include the rising cost of oil, the production of biofuels that turn food into fuels, climate change, and poor harvests. ZIMBABWE - April 14, 2008
News item: Official results from the presidential election in Zimbabwe have remained unpublished since the election took place on March 29th. The main opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change, says it has defeated President Robert Mugabe who has served as Zimbabwe's leader for 28 years.

News item: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., husband, father, civil rights leader, minister, Nobel Peace prize winner, was assassinated 40 years ago in Memphis, TN.

WINTER SOLDIER 2008 - March 17, 2008
News item: "US veterans and active-duty soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan testify about the horrors of war" - Headline from Democracy Now! The meeting in Silver Spring, Maryland which ran March 13th to the 16th, 2008 was modeled after the 1971 Winter Soldier hearings held during the Vietnam War. According to Democracy Now!, the 2008 event was practically ignored by American corporate media.
