News item: On May 3, 2008, the country of Myanmar, formerly Burma, was struck by the devastating Cyclone Nargis. Initial death tolls were at 23,000 but could eventually reach over 100,000. The United Nations notes that the cyclone will affect over one million people. Military leaders have been criticized for not allowing the distribution of enough food and other relief aid for victims.
